There are principal areas of learning and development in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. These are all important and provide a broad approach to a child’s learning and development.
The focus is initially on:
- Communication and Language Development
- Personal Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
The following are increasingly integrated over time:
- Understanding the World
- Expressive arts and design

There is a balance of adult directed teaching and child-initiated learning. In both the indoor and outdoor environments, children also learn through play-based and hands-on experiences.
Staff carefully support and observe each child, keeping track of their interests and progress, ensuring plenty of new ideas and challenges, as well as identifying any areas for support.
Children’s Learning Journals provide parents with a clear view of their child’s time at School and these help the easy, trusting dialogue between home and School, both informally and in regular parent/teacher meetings.
