On their second day back to school, all Devonshire House freshly new Year 5 pupils joined Dukes Education “Poetry Together” event at the British Library, hosted by Gyles Brandreth.

A wonderful celebration of poetry for old and young and everyone in between.
This event was an opportunity for our students to learn the writing process of poetry, but also to practice their poem performance skills! Three of our brave and talented Year 5s were preselected to perform on stage their favourite poem. Huge congratulations!

Emotions, repetitions, alliterations, metaphors we heard them all in one day! All children spent the day participating in exciting workshops led by awarded and amazing poets and authors: Joseph Coelho and slam poet Polar Bear (aka Steven Camden).

Further to this successful launch event, our Years 5s will work on their poems around happiness for a chance to be nominated as The Best Poem of Poetry Together 2023. To be continued…
