The benefits of attending a ‘Stay & Play’ at your Child’s Nursery

Mrs Stefan | Oaks Nursery Teacher at Devonshire House School

Often, once the children are settled, Nursery schools invite parents to join the class for a little while, we call it a ‘Stay & Play’ session.

Stay & Play is much more than just spending some more time and play with your child. Interacting together in the classroom environment has many benefits for your child’s social and personal growth.

When parents are coming to the classrooms for Stay & Play, they are entering the children’s environment, observing first-hand the activities they engage with every day. It is a valuable opportunity for the children to showcase their work, their interests and abilities, as well as practicing communication and social-emotional skills.

But most importantly, it consolidates the parent-child relationship, and it enables feelings of empathy, pride and understanding, on both sides. It is a great experience for getting a sneak peek into the engaging and stimulating school environment, including key benefits for the children, like developing wellbeing, extending learning and having fun together!

The Stay & Play sessions mirror beautifully the children’s belonging in the community they’ve developed in their school life and at Devonshire House, we invite parents to take part of it several times a year.
