The quiz team from Devonshire House Prep School, Hampstead, has won the Quiz Club UK General Knowledge Championship, the country’s largest inter-school quiz competition.
The Championship is for primary age children and teams must comprise a player from Years 3 to 6. The Devonshire House team, made up of girls and boys aged 7 to 11 were selected for their excellent wide-ranging knowledge and specialist expertise. After beating hundreds of schools in the regional heats and semis, the team travelled to Oxford University to compete in the National Finals on 3rd July with 37 other schools.
Tension built as the Devonshire House team progressed to the last round of the finals. The team led the field up to the penultimate round and made a fantastic effort to come back and win.
One of the winners, said: “I was very excited when I heard that we had won. I couldn’t really believe it at first. Then I just screamed and jumped!”
The Year 6 team member commented: “The event was tense but what matters in the end was that we did our best as a team and won. I was honoured to be able to go to Oxford for the finals and win for the school!”
Devonshire House Head, Henry Keighley-Elstub commented: “I couldn’t be more proud of our team. They worked incredibly hard to prepare, reading everything they could lay their hands on and quizzing teachers, family and friends. Even more impressive was the way they supported each other throughout the competition and helped to steady each other’s nerves as they progressed through the competition. It was an excellent team effort.”
